About Us

Who we are

Friends of Rural Growth (FORG), Ghana, is a non-governmental, non-profit organization formally established in 2016 after operating informally since 2014. The organization was founded by a group of like-minded professionals from northern Ghana with backgrounds in agriculture, environmental science, social science, community development, and financial management.

FORG operates primarily in rural communities across Ghana, with a strong presence in the Upper West Region. Our work responds directly to the realities of poverty, environmental degradation, climate vulnerability, and limited livelihood opportunities in rural areas.

Our Vision

A healthy environment and improved living standards for all people, particularly women, children, and deprived communities.

Our Mission

To improve the living standards of rural communities through advocacy, mobilization, and capacity building in sustainable environmental management, agriculture, climate action, education, health, and alternative livelihoods.

Our Core Values

Community Ownership – Development works best when communities lead
Environmental Stewardship – Protecting nature for present and future generations
Equity & Inclusion – Empowering women, youth, and marginalized groups
Transparency & Accountability – Responsible use of resources
Sustainability – Long-term impact beyond project cycles

Building Resilient Communities Through Nature, Knowledge, and Action

Since 2016, FORG has worked closely with rural communities—particularly women, youth, and marginalized groups—to restore degraded landscapes, strengthen local livelihoods, and build resilience against climate and environmental challenges.

Our work combines community knowledge, scientific expertise, and partnership-driven solutions to deliver lasting impact.
